1:72 Saxons from EMHAR

The EMHAR Saxons set is made from a different kind of plastic that takes paint and glue far better than the soft polyethylene usually used for plastic toy soldiers. This means easier customizing/finishing using regular model cement and painting methods and paint types .

The Saxons were a confederation of Germanic tribes on the North German Plain. The Saxons may have derived their name from seax, a kind of knife for which they were known.

According to tradition, the Saxons (and other tribes) first entered Britain en masse as part of a deal to protect the Britons from the incursions of the Picts, Gaels and others. The story as reported in such sources as the Historia Brittonum and Gildas indicates that the British king Vortigern allowed the Germanic warlords, later named as Hengist and Horsa by Bede, to settle their people on the Isle of Thanet in exchange for their service as mercenaries. Hengist, according to Bede, manipulated Vortigern into granting more land and allowing for more settlers to come in, paving the way for the Germanic settlement of Britain. Wikipedia

Early in the fifth century increasing numbers of Saxon warriors and settlers arrived and set up various kingdoms and settlements. From these, they eventually carved out the first united Kingdom of England.

EMHAR's set depicts Saxons from the 9th and 10th centuries, during the arrival of the Vikings and the inevitable conflict between these two groups.
